هيتاشي: سعة الأقراص الصلبة سترتفع إلى 4 تيرابايت

ليس على القائمين على تخزين بيانات الوسائط المتعددة "الملتيميديا" أن يقلقوا من أن تصل السعة التخزينية لأجهزة الكمبيوتر المحمولة أو كاميرات الفيديو الرقمية أو مشغلات الموسيقى المحمولة، لسقف معين قريبا.

فقد صرحت شركة هيتاشي بأن باحثيها قاموا بنجاح بتقليص حجم أحد المكونات الرئيسية في الأقراص الصلبة، ليصبح متناه في الصغر، مما سيمهد الطريق لمضاعفة حدود السعة التخزينية الحالية لأربعة "تيرابايت" في أجهزة الكومبيوتر المكتبية، وواحد "تيرابايت" في أجهزة الكمبيوتر المحمولة، بحلول 2011.

وبإمكان التيرابايت الواحد، أن يحفظ نصوص قرابة مليون كتاب، أو 250 ساعة من صور الفيديو فائقة الجودة، أو ربع مليون أغنية.

ويعود الفضل لهذا العمل، الذي تنوي شركة هيتاشي تقديمه في طوكيو خلال مؤتمر حول التسجيلات المغناطيسية.

ويعتمد هذا العمل على تكنولوجيا تعرف بـ"المقاومة المغناطيسية العملاقة" "Magnetoresistance Giant "، أو GMR، والتي كانت المادة الأساسية في عمل عالمين أوروبيين فازا بجائزة نوبل في الفيزياء الأسبوع الماضي.

ومنذ ابتكارها، زادت سعة الأقراص الصلبة بفضل الباحثين الذين ضغطوا مزيدا من جزيئات البيانات معا، وأثناء ذلك قاموا أيضا بجعل الرؤوس حساسة بما فيه الكفاية لقراءة البيانات.

وساهمت صناعة الأقراص الصلبة في حث التطور التكنولوجي على ابتكارات جديدة كلما واجه إحدى العقبات، وكانت الـ GMR من الإنجازات التي حققت أسرع معدلات النمو في الأعوام الأولى من الألفية الجديدة، حيث تضاعفت سعة الأقراص الصلبة في كل عام.

وقال جون بيست، رئيس وحدة تخزين البيانات في شركة هيتاشي: "قمنا بتغير اتجاه التيار وبتعديلات على المواد للحصول على خصائص جيدة."

وصرحت هيتاشي أنها بذلك تكون قد ابتكرت أصغر رؤوس قرص صلب في العالم، حيث تتراوح من 30 إلى 50 نانومتر، وهي أصغر من عرض شعرة إنسان بنحو ألفي مرة.
